Journals, 1848-1854. Volume 1 is a typed transcript of the original, Volume 2. Volume 2 is a journal of his voyage from Pontiac to Detroit (Mich.) to New York and eventually San Francisco (Cal.), May 7, 1852-Dec. 25, 1854 via steamer. Volume 2 contains letters to his mother in Pontiac (Mich), written by Wisner in San Franscisco, June 27, 1852-Feb. 14, 1855 and is a journal of his voyage from New Orleans (La.) to Jamaica on the schooner "Sylph," Jan. 27, 1848-Feb. 9, 1849. Wisner described his daily life and economic problems while employed in a wholesale clothing store, shipwrecks, earthquakes, gold mining near Sacramento, elections, farming, and the massive immigration of Chinese in the summer of 1854 to California. A number of pages in the volume have been ripped out as well as part of one letter to his mother.
